xx Seasons and Festivals
« Thread started on: Oct 17th, 2006, 6:54pm »

Seasons: Each season lasts one full month. For example, if Spring starts on October first, it will end on October 31st then Summer will begin November first. It continues like that all year round.

Festivals and Events: Every season will have around three or four festivals. It's not required that you go to all of them, but it's still a lot of fun to do so. Below are the seasons with their festivals listed.

Spring
Spring 1: New years Day - This is, as it says, new year's day! This festival is where we celebrate the coming of a new year. Basically, the villagers go to the town square, drink and be merry! Whoever can out-drink everyone else wins, heh heh.
Spring 14: Valentine's Day - Just a day of romances to do something special for your partner. It's traditional that, girls will bake cakes for men they like.
Spring 24: Goddess Festival - A week before the Goddess festival begins, there will be voting in the square to vote for who will be the Goddess this year. Every eligible bachelorette at least of the age of sixteen may participate. On the day of the festival, the winner will be announced. There, she and the Harvest King (see the Harvest Festival) will lead the dance. The remaining boys will choose the remaining girls for their dance partners.

Summer
Summer 3: Swimming Festival - It's traditional that on the third of Summer the villagers gather at the beach to hold a party to celebrate the opening of the swimming season. The festival lasts into the night, where villagers hold a barbecue. Make sure you bring your bathing suit - the point of the festival is to enjoy the water!
Summer 17: Firefly Festival - Go down to the Beach around nightfall and remember all of your loved ones that have passed away. Then send firefly lanterns off into the ocean to guide the those who have passed away.
Summer 27: Fireworks Festival - This can be both a friendly and romantic festival of sorts. On this day, all of the villagers gather on the beach to watch the fireworks. Either that, or you and a friend (or perhaps a special someone) can go to your own secluded little area to watch them together.

Fall
Fall 7: Harvest Festival - This is where the Harvest King of the year is determined. On the day of the festival, there will be plates laid out on the table, each numbered. The cake with the coin inside will have been determined previously. Everyone bachelor over the age of sixteen will choose a cake, and whoever chooses the one with the coin inside is the winner. The Harvest King will lead the dance with whichever girl he chooses, and will be the host of the dog and horse races.
Fall 12: Cooking Contest - If you're a great cook, then this is your chance for fame! Bring your famous dish over to the Town Square, and enter it in the Cooking Contest! If the food judge chooses your dish, you will win a special prize!!
Fall 20: Horse Race - If you own one, then you and your horse may participate in this event. The name describes it all; you race against other villagers and their horses. The winner will receive a trophy and a prize.
Fall 28: Thanksgiving - Thanksgiving is a time for thanks and being with friends and family, so the village will be holding a huge feast in the square. Come and bring a dish you've cooked up and share it with the other villagers.

Winter
Winter 10: Dog Race - If you own one, you can race your pooch in the dog race. The winner will get a trophy and a special prize.
Winter 19: Starry Night - Starry Night isn't exactly a festival, there's no celebrations or anything - however, the stars are at their brightest of they year on that night, so it's an ideal opportunity to go stargazing. Traditionally, girls will invite boys to their house for dinner, and then go stargazing together - but the ways have shifted, and people often invite one of their friends, instead.
Winter 25: Christmas - This is the day where villagers visit one another to exchange gifts with their loved ones. There will be a nice big tree in the square, so if you want to leave gifts anonymously, then leave them there. Remember to check there for gifts you may have received!
Winter 28/29/30/31 (depending on the month): New Years - Stay up all night and wait for the new year to come with the rest of the villagers! A place - such as a person's residence or shop - will be randomly chosen to celebrate this festival.

Birthdays?

Yes, you can have birthday parties! If you decide to have a party for your character's birthday, it should be held at the person's residence. You can pretty much do whatever you want at the parties. Please try to avoid having birthdays on the same days as festivals, though.

Weddings?

Yup, weddings count as special celebrations, too. When a couple decides to tie the knot, it's customary that the entire village comes for the celebration. Pointing out bridesmaids and flower-girls and such can't hurt, either.
